VivaVideo – Video Editor

It’s really liberating to use a video editor on the move. You can nearly instantaneously shoot, edit, and share a video. There are a lot of apps that do this, but the one we’re looking at right now is VivaVideo, which is (largely) free for Android and iOS.

The UI only works in portrait orientation, as you’ll observe. This allows you to preview your edit at the top of the UI while still having access to all of your tools on the bottom.

You can add as many clips as you need in one go once you’ve given VivaVideo permission to access your camera roll. The free edition, however, has a limit: you can’t make a movie longer than 5 minutes.

The user interface makes editing a short film a breeze. Pinch to zoom in for fine work, swipe to navigate back and forth along the timeline, and so on.

Trim, split, and delete are just a few of the tools you’ll need. You can also rotate and zoom into a clip, although those two options are strangely hidden in the ‘Canvas’.

The Canvas option is where you can choose the dimensions of your project. It assumes the dimensions of the first shot you import into it by default, but you may change that at any moment. You have the following options: 1:1, 4:5, 4:3, 9:16, 16:9, 3:4, and 2.39:1. You can also change between them at any time.

Other features include the option to change the pace of a clip or a full project, reverse, rotate, or duplicate your footage, mute, or adjust the volume (up to 200 percent of the original).

If you need to reorder your clips, use the Sort tool. It’s quite simple to collect some footage and relocate it to another area using that interface.

The sheer number and quality of transitions available, the vast majority of which are free, astounded us. The rest are reserved for ‘VIP’ members exclusively (more on that later).

Although there is a Voice Changer sound effect, we found it to be the poorest aspect of the software. With the clips we tested it with, all of the default options produced dreadful results, to the point where it felt like a gimmick. There is a ‘Custom’ option that looks promising, but it is only available to VIP members.

Color Correction tools are also exclusively available to VIP members, and while you can try them out for free, your changes will not be saved unless you upgrade your membership.

You’ll see that your project has a ‘VivaVideo’ watermark put on it in the lower right corner of the screen that you can’t remove, nor can you add another sort of watermark, even if it’s in addition to that one, until you become a VIP.
