Into the Dead 2: The Survival

Into the Dead 2 is a new first-person infinite running game for iOS and Android from PikPok.

After crashing his truck and being overrun by the undead, players assume the role of Henry, a man desperately trying to return home on foot. Into the Dead 2’s visuals are impressive for a mobile game, with well-produced cutscenes and good voice acting. The incredibly polished free version of this game is rife with microtransactions, with frequent prompts to subscribe and pay for additional in-game resources. This ruined an otherwise fantastic trip. (quote) “Into the Dead 2’s visual presentation is impressive, with short but well-produced cutscenes.”

An “infinite runner” is exactly what it sounds like – the player keeps running from start to finish, moving left and right to line up kill shots and avoid hostiles. You have a main weapon and a backup weapon, and you get ammo by running over supply crates marked by smoke and a green light. The tension builds as hordes of zombies approach and your bullets run out.

The left screen is for movement, and the touch controls work well. When I needed to change direction quickly or veer sharply, my fingers slipped out of the touch control zone, causing me to run into a swarm of zombies or miss a supply crate. Aside from that, the controls were easy to use and responsive. The right side of the touch screen is used to fire and switch weapons. Shooting zombies is simple, and your shot is accurate when your on-screen weapon jerks towards the closest zombie. These shots can miss when moving side-to-side, but they are usually accurate.

Weapons can be obtained and upgraded to increase their stats. In this case, you are prompted to pay for a game subscription or spend your hard-earned cash on in-game resources in an unfortunate pay-to-win fashion.

It not only tempts you with powerful weapons and constant resource purchases, but it also rewards you with random loot boxes at the end of each level. Isn’t that nice? After you open a loot box and claim your rewards, you’ll be given an offer you can’t refuse – watch this video and get another loot box! But the video was for another mobile game. I was left with a bad taste in my mouth and a broken spirit. That was enough of the constant microtransaction requests. To top it all off, you have stamina, which gives you the energy to complete “runs”. If you fail a run too many times, you won’t be able to try any more story levels for the day unless you buy more stamina with your precious resources.
