Reverso is an online translator and spelling and grammar checking tool developed by Reverso-Softissimo.
Key Features
This tool can translate your text into different languages, including German, Italian, Arabic, Hebrew, Spanish, and more. Reverso works via a web browser, a Google Chrome plugin, and a Google Play and iPhone app. To access the browser extension, click the “Add Reverso to Chrome” button under the “Join Reverso” dropdown menu. It works offline, and you can speak words into the app if typing isn’t for you.
Reverso provides corrections and suggestions and more information via an in-built dictionary. With the extension, you can view your translation search history and save your favorite translations to reference later.
As it has a word-count limit of 600 characters, this online writing tutor is very useful for checking or translating shorter pieces of writing. Examples include a brief email or a social media post.
I liked how I could check the definition of certain words and their synonyms via one or two clicks within Reverso. This is a useful method for self-editing. Reverso also provides context that will help you learn English.
After some digging, I found out the tool is powered by Ginger Software, which explains its support for non-English languages. It’s a useful tool that works much like Ginger.
Description
Reverso is best known for being an online translation service featuring dictionaries and pronunciation aids. The company also offers language services such as spelling and grammar checking tools. It’s easy to improve sentences, grammar, and word choice with Reverso.
The service is free and it is mostly financed by its advertisement. And according to their “About Me” page. That could be a good or bad thing, depending on how accurate it is and since it is lacking in features like multilingual support or a plagiarism checker.
1. Straightforward Interface
Reverso’s interface is straight to the point. Just enter your text and press “check” to begin analyzing your writing. Moreover, checking your sentences is easy with the interface. Indeed, it is one of the best spell checkers out there.
2. It’s Relatively Accurate
It’s a consistent online grammar checker that identifies spelling mistakes, punctuation or grammatical errors, improve your text, and more with ease. It’s like a one-of-a-kind online dictionary that corrects grammar mistakes and misspelled words. To improve any vocabulary, Reverso is a great online tool.
If you need to check online comma use, hyphens, parts of speech, or words that are spelled correctly but not used correctly, Reverso has got your back.
Unlike some other free online grammar checkers, it can caught incorrect uses of “your” right off the bat. Therefore, improving your sentences is very easy.
3. Grammar Rules Backed by Translation Service
Grammar rules used to check text seem to be backed by Reverso-Softissimo, a language software powerhouse that designs, publishes, and incorporates their work across the market.
For grammar and spelling mistakes, it is more convenient. You can free yourself from spelling errors with it. And improve your texts easily.
4. Browser Extension Available
This grammar checker can be used via a mobile browser, web browser, or Google Chrome browser extension making it a perfect online tool.
5. Thesaurus
Whether you are looking for synonyms and antonyms to improve your sentences, Reverso is useful.
Reverso’s online thesaurus is complete. It provides a great list of synonyms and features also thesaurus antonyms.
6. Multilingual Service (12 Languages)
Reverso can check free online grammar in 12 different languages, and even auto-detect your language in some cases. You can easily check the spelling in a chosen language online.
Reverso Cons
There are a few cons to this checker, though.
1. Misses the Mark on Concision
It’s true that Reverso caught obvious grammar issues, like incorrect uses of “your.”
However, it doesn’t catch more subtle issues like passive voice, redundant words, etc.
2. No Plagiarism Checker
Reverso does not come with a plagiarism checker.
3. Strict Limitations
Reverso can only check 600 characters at a time, making it a pretty limited service.
4. No Reporting/Human Review
Users of this checker have no way to export their reports to referring to them later, and human reviews aren’t available, either.
5. Customer Service Needs Improvement
Users have to choose the type of request and enter their name, email, country, company, position, phone number, and feedback or request, so it’s a fairly extensive process.
