Each level has a set of objectives that usually involve going somewhere and activating a switch, blowing something up, or defeating a large enemy. They’re just cover for mutants. You’re basically just trying to finish the level without dying too many times, as you lose a star for each time you die. Killing enemies quickly in the game rewards you with combo bonuses. Getting a lot of points requires racking up a big chain and the massive bonuses that come with it. And getting three stars isn’t a given in this game. No, three stars are earned. You should aim for large chains whenever possible, and knowing where your enemies are on the map will help you achieve this goal. 2 stars for wiping everyone out, 3 stars for accomplishment. Repawning costs a maximum star, so dying once on a level you’re trying to finish isn’t a big deal.
Playing earns coins for new weapons. In-app purchases for more money are available, but are not a problem. You earn more money as you progress, and the weapons are powerful enough that buying IAP is probably a mistake. Unless you want every weapon and hate grinding in any form. The progression gives you enough money to buy powerful weapons for your level. Also, weapons level up and improve quickly. I never felt like I was fighting to improve.

The game feels better with a controller, but that’s probably true of most games. Not a huge deal, but I would prefer the unused L2 trigger to be the center camera button. This is a must-have game for MFi controller owners.

MISSION
To stop the mutants from spreading, you must destroy all of the nests and eradicate all mutants.
Xenowerk features 70 levels of increasing difficulty. As you go through the game, you’ll encounter an increasing number of mutants and new regions to clean up.
ARSENAL
To stay alive on your quest, you’ll need more weapons and heavier armor. To improve weapons and armor, collect pickups from defeated mutants.
SPECIAL ABILITIES
Xenowerk comes with a variety of extraordinary abilities that can help you increase your offense when you need it the most. Activate one or more at a time to eliminate mutations more effectively.
