Description
What is Aarogya Setu?
Aarogya Setu is a smartphone application launched on April 2, 2020, by the National Informatics Centre. The app is under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. It is to protect Indian citizens in our joint fight against COVID-19.
The Government of India created the Aarogya Setu smartphone app to aid in attempts to combat the spread of COVID-19. Also, to enable Bluetooth-based contact tracing, mapping of potential hotspots, and dissemination of essential COVID-19 information.
Moreover, it attempts to track coronavirus infection by utilizing Bluetooth. To assess whether the user has been within six feet of an infected person, and then cross-reference that information with a national database of all COVID-19 patients in the country.
To decide which zone (red, orange, or green) the user is in, the Aarogya Setu app analyzes location data to assess infection rates and active COVID-19 cases in that particular area.
How does it work?
It aims to increase the Indian government’s proactive outreach to app users about COVID-19 dangers, best practices, and appropriate advisories.
Using Bluetooth and location-based social graphs, the software tracks if you’ve been in close touch with a COVID-positive person. It employs contact tracing to keep track of all the people you meet in everyday life.
Also, to improve efficiency, the software needs additional data from various areas. This is similar to how Google Maps detects traffic jams based on location data.
Additionally, the app also includes a Self-Assessment Test, a complete list of helpline numbers across the country, and a Twitter feed with all of the Ministry of Health’s newest tweets.
