Khan Academy
Khan Academy Kids is a comprehensive early learning resource that may be used to help kids gain personalized practice with crucial foundational learning material. Khan Academy Kids is a free, open-source, online resource that is available to anybody. Simply allowing pupils to pursue their automated learning route and checking in on a frequent basis to see how they’re progressing is all that is required to get started. Alternatively, you can select and choose activities from the library (which are all available from the start) to assign to certain pupils. The progress report is straightforward, but it does provide an insight into what students have accomplished and whether or not they have grasped the idea in question. Utilize the comments to assist in identifying and addressing issue areas for individual students or the entire class.
Khan Academy Kids could be used as a learning station, homework assignment, or computer lab exercise with relative ease. Teachers may even broadcast the movies, songs, or novels to the entire class if they feel it is appropriate. Bring the learning experience off the screen by singing the songs that were included in each of the videos, delving deeper into a few topics that piqued your interest, or extending the learning themes with complimentary off-screen activities.
The guided learning path activities (the big play button in the center of the screen) and the library (the book icon in the top right), where students can choose what they want to do, should be clearly differentiated for students (and parents, if the app is going home) to ensure that they understand the difference between the two types of activities.
At first glance, this isn’t immediately clear. Be careful that if students are supposed to complete a specific activity or follow a specific learning path, some students may become distracted and go into the library, deviating from their intended path. This, however, is one of the attractions of the program, so it may be wise to alternate between assigned or path-based activities and free exploration in the library to maximize enjoyment.
Description
Khan Academy is a free app for early learning developed by the Duck Duck Moose and Khan Academy teams. In collaboration with the Stanford Graduate School of Education, Khan Academy Kids is available on the App Store. A large database of activities is available that cover learning topics. From the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and the Common Core State Standards. Activities in math, English language arts, executive function, social-emotional learning. And creative expression are included in the curriculum.
After teachers have provided and confirmed an email address. They can create a distinct user account for each student, complete with a name, age, and an avatar. When they arrive, students sign in with a unique class code. In order to meet and play with friendly animal guides. Then, based on the child’s age and previous performance, activities are automatically suggested.
Math, ELA, logic, and social emotional learning (SEL) topics are rotated across games, films, and books. And there are possibilities for discovery and creative expression as well. After completing exercises, kids can choose a prize to add to their animal friends’ collections. They can even go to each animal’s home and dress up their animals. As a result of their efforts.
Students and teachers can browse and choose activities by topic or kind. As well as by difficulty level, which divided into four categories. Teachers can also search for activities based on Common Core or Head Start standards. And then assign specific activities to individual students. There is some limited feedback for teachers, which displays. Which topics pupils have accomplished and which topics they are still working on. But it is not comprehensive.
IS IT ANY GOOD?
Presented in a creative and very accessible way, this collection includes videos, songs. And activities that cover a wide range of topics. When it comes to early learning, Khan Academy Kids makes it simple. As well as enjoyable for young children to get started and immerse themselves. In foundational, fundamental, and comprehensive early learning topics.
The books, videos, songs, and games are all of great quality. And they make innovative use of the touchscreen interface to their advantage. There are plenty of possibilities for students to experiment, explore. Also express themselves amid the more traditional multiple-choice tasks that mixed in with them. For example, in a logic game, children asked to follow directions. In order to place hats on some animal friends. But, in between trials, children encouraged to play by putting the hats. On the animals in whichever manner they choose to do so.
Alternatively, if children become weary of reacting to learning games. They can draw a tale and then narrate it while moving objects around the screen. Reading a book, or listening to a song on the computer. Parental input is minimal, but not overpowering, in that it allows them to track their children’s progress. All in all, the educational content provided by Khan Academy Kids. Goes much beyond the conventional ABC/123 early-learning software.
